After charting Britain’s paranormal landscape for years, Higgypop founder Steve Higgins has now lent his own voice to his latest release. The audiobook edition of ‘My UFO Youth: A Road Trip Through Britain’s UFO History’ is out now on Audible, bringing Steve’s journey to life in his own words.
The audiobook follows his travels across the UK as he revisits the UFO hotspots that once captured his imagination as a teenager. It’s a mix of personal reflection, dry humour, and honest curiosity – from the windswept coast of Broad Haven in West Wales, where children once reported seeing a silver-suited spaceman, to the forests of Rendlesham in Suffolk, site of Britain’s best-known UFO incident in 1980.
„I narrate the audiobook myself, which did involve a bit of a challenge,” Steve explained. „I spoke to some interesting people along the way, from American filmmakers to gruff, shandy-drinking conspiracy theorists, and I’m not great with accents, so portraying all the different voices was a real challenge.”
First published in print on November 5, ‘My UFO Youth’ marked Steve’s first major book since ‘The Paranormal Encyclopaedia’ in 2024. The audiobook expands that story in a more intimate way, letting listeners experience each encounter as if they were riding in the passenger seat – whether that’s chatting to long-time ufologists in rural pubs or standing beneath the stars with Sullivan the dog looking mildly unimpressed.
Each stop on the road paints a picture of how Britain’s fascination with unidentified flying objects has evolved over the decades. Steve visits the legendary Cradle Hill at Warminster, once a magnet for sky-watchers in the 1960s, and finds himself amid freshly formed crop circles near Etchilhampton – meeting believers, artists, and sceptics alike.
„I love how personal this journal feels,” Steve said. „It was great fun to write, and I hope people enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
